Channel Category
Two different things share this name. In the Telegram Ads cabinet an advertiser can target by topic category — that is a targeting option inside the ad platform, and the only channel category Telegram itself exposes. On Telegram Ads Spy a channel category is our own topic label: Telegram publishes no per-channel category and our data source returns none, so we derive it with a rules-based classifier over the channel title and description, limited to a fixed channel-topic vocabulary. Values recorded before August 2026 have no source attached — they name the discovery batch a channel arrived in, not a reading of the channel.
